With all those opinions running rampant on the internet out there, it can sometimes be difficult to determine fact from fiction. Well, when it come to your drinking we water, we say you shouldn’t have to. That’s why we’ve devoted this Myth Monday to debunking some of the most common water myths out there. Some of them might surprise you!
Myth #1: Every person should be drinking 8 glasses of water per day.
This one is sort of true. While experts typically recommend about 8 glasses of water per day, the actual number needed for each individual can vary based on diet, weight and level of physical activity, among other things. If you’re truly unsure how much you should be drinking, it’s best to consult your primary care physician.
Myth #2: If you’re not drinking water, you’re not hydrating.
While water is the fastest way to juice up your body, it’s not the only way. Many foods also provide a significant amount of water when consumed. In fact, experts say we can get about 20% of our daily recommended water intake from fruits and veggies alone.
Myth #3: Bottled water is always better.
Wrong! Not only does bottled water sometimes eliminate some of the important minerals that tap water provides, but it’s also not at closely regulated as you think. While the FDA regulates bottled water, it cannot oversee mandatory testing the way the EPA does for municipal water systems. Bottom line — filtering your water with a quality RO system is a much safer option!
Myth #4: You should drink more when you’re thirsty.
Sort of true! If you’re already thirsty, then you’re already dehydrated. In that case, yes, you should drink up, but the goal is to keep yourself well-hydrated all day so you don’t find yourself dying for a drink of water midday.
Myth #5: Drinking water helps curb hunger pains.
Correct! So the next time you find yourself grabbing for a chocolate bar or bag of chips for a midday snack, consider a glass of water instead. Hydrating and satisfying, plus you’ll be able to maintain your figure for longer. Sounds like a win-win to us!
