Salt-free water conditioning systems are similar to a water softener in that it prevents scale build-up in appliances, on your fixtures, in your pipes, or on your skin & hair but it does not use salt for ion exchange.
What is a Saltless Water Softener?
A saltless water softener is not actually a water softener at all.
Technically, any system that doesn’t use salt is not considered a softener because it does not perform an ion exchange with Sodium or Potassium ions to replace the main minerals responsible for water hardness: Calcium and Magnesium.
Kinetico Scale Reduction System
The Kinetico SRS relies on a chemical inhibitor that changes the ionic state of the main culprits of hard water: calcium and magnesium. The SRS crystallizes the minerals in the water so that they are not able to condense on surfaces any cannot cause the dry skin, scale buildup, and other problems associated with hard water.
