What Are PFAS?

PFAS stands for Per-and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances.
This represents a large family of man-made chemicals that include: PFOS and PFOA.
These compounds are commonly found in drinking water supplies. PFAS can be present in both private and public wells and have been linked with development of numerous cancers.

PFAS is "forever"

As a man-made chemical with an ultra-long lifespan, it takes a long time for this compound to break apart or decompose—we're talking millions of years! This unfortunately means that PFAS stays in our bodies after we ingest it via water or food.

PFAS can harm our health

According to the EPA, traces of PFAS in your drinking water can lead to health risks, including cancer, liver effects, immune effects, and other serious health issues, especially for infants who are still developing.

Small Amounts are Dangerous

EPA safety limits for PFAS/ PFOA are as small as 4 parts per trillion. Only a lab test can determine presence of PFAS in your water.

FAQs About PFAS

PFAS is a grouping of man-made chemicals, and of its many components, the two most studied are PFOS and PFOA. These chemicals were widely used in the manufacturing of popular household and packaging products in the United States, including furniture fabrics, paper food packaging, carpets, and non-stick cookware (EPA).

Because these chemicals were not properly disposed of in their heyday, they seeped into groundwater, contaminating nearby well water and wildlife.

PFAS not only affects the quality of our drinking water and health, but it also can contaminate fish and other wildlife in our region. The only way to test for PFAS is to request lab testing in your nearby area.

The current nationally recommended level of PFOS and PFOA is 70 parts per trillion (ppt). But in the state of Minnesota, this number is much less:

PFOS (15 ppt)
PFOA (35 ppt)

We loved Nick, kind, patient. Some confusion. Nick said if we change filters and hose out condenser every year no reason to set up maintenance plan for 3 to 5 years. Do we still get warranty? He checked out unit and said everything good.

8/22/2023: My AC wasn't working during a heat wave. I called and assumed it'd be at least a few days before a technician could be dispatched but to my pleasant surprise, they sent Mike out a few hours after I first called!
We got along great! He listened to my concerns and suggestions, tested certain components, and repaired the unit. He didn't try to up-sell me on parts I didn't require and even showed me how to install a new thermostat myself. I didn't know which one I wanted just then and he taught me how to install it for whenever I had purchased one.
The system was up and running correctly 4hrs after I first called for help!
Mike deserves a raise and should be considered for training... he would make a terrific trainer. His customer service and technician skills are some of the best I've encountered since well before 2020.

7/8/2025: Dustin stopped by to service my whole house water filtration system. He was professional, courteous, and skilled. We had a fun conversation while he worked. Thanks Dustin!
