Since it’s not that easy to physically tell if you have this issue, keep an eye out for these signs you have corrosive water.
You Use a Well System
While this isn’t the case for every home, if your home uses well water, you may have corrosive water. Well water tends to have a low pH balance that can corrode the insides of your pipes and cause a number of other issues. If you’re unsure if your water supply is harmful to your plumbing, you can always have it tested.
You See Blue/Green Stains
The low acidity of corrosive water can leave unsightly blue and green stains on your pipes, faucets, toilet bowls, sinks, showers, and more. While you may be able to remove these stains temporarily, the only way you’ll rid yourself of them for good is by treating your corrosive water.
Your Water Tastes Metallic
If corrosive water is flowing through your pipes, don’t be surprised if your water has a metallic taste to it, especially when you first turn on the faucet in the morning. That taste is likely coming from the tiny metal particles that broke off from the inside of your pipes and are now flowing through your water supply.
You Have Little Leaks All the Time
As more metal starts to wear away from the inside of your plumbing, your pipes can develop small holes and leaks. Not only will you have to repair or replace the pipe, but if you don’t do anything about your water, the leaks will just keep appearing in other spots in your home.
